            Part II, “Wise Men Still Seek Jesus.” Matt. 12:1-12, Daniel

This morning, we continue to contemplate the coming of the Blessed One.  Today we will take a look at the mysterious Wise Men found in Matthew’s gospel, who found their way to Bethlehem.  They are a picture of men who genuinely seek after the King who came in the person of the infant Jesus.

 

Who were these mysterious Wise Men (Magi)?

           

I.  Magi from the East

     A.  Eliminate Egypt, Syria, Turkey.

     B.  They followed his star. (Astronomy, Astrology)

     C.  The Tower of Babel was in Babylon.

     D.  Daniel’s legacy in Babylon.

II.  Magi – Captivated by the Chief Magi.

     A.  The Chief Magi of Babylon.  Daniel 2:48

     B.  Nebuchadnessar’s Evil Plan.  Daniel 2:5, 12

     C.  Daniel saved the Magi/profession.  Daniel 2:28

     D.  All Magi to follow would study his works.

            1.  600 years of History (Bab., Medo-Persian, Greek, Roman)

            2.  God of heaven will set up a kingdom.  Dan. 2:44

            3.  This Son of Man will have worldwide dominion. Dan. 7:14

            4.  The timing was specific.  Dan. 9:25  He came from Israel!

III.  Following the star and seeking the King.

     A.  They were looking for a sign of the coming King.

     B.  Magi heads of state.

     C.  Daniel presented this coming Prince in his prophetic writings.

     D.  They treated this baby as God.

            1.  Brought him Gold, Frankincense, Myrrh!

     E.  They showed extraordinary allegiance to the word.

     F.  They committed their time, energy, talent and treasure to Him.
