New Members Class: What's It All About?

The New Members Class is a special time of sharing between those who are looking for a church home and those who have already found a church home.  It’s a special time for God to bring hearts together and grow His family at Myrtle Grove. We believe that God’s plan for doing this has three biblical foundations.

1.     Sharing the Myrtle Grove Story. This biblical foundation is described in John 4:24---“God is spirit, and His worshippers must worship in spirit and in truth.”

God established Myrtle Grove to be a Word and Spirit church, anchored in the Word of God and alive in the power of the Spirit. This heritage is the cornerstone of who we are and what we believe. “We are a Christ-centered, Biblically based, Holy Spirit empowered Body of believers.”This rich history, our vision and mission, the essentials of our faith, the work of the Holy Spirit, how our church is governed and more---are all shared with new members by church Elders and through the written pages of a special notebook.

2.     Showing the Love of Christ. The biblical foundation is described in John 15:12---“My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.”

The heart of the New Members Class is showing Christ’s love to each other. This is done during times of “meeting and greeting”, speaking words of encouragement, praying together, and as the small group leaders walk beside the new members in helping them get to know people.   A typical New Members Class is a mixture of ingredients---people of all ages, in different stages of life, and from a variety of church backgrounds. But the common thread is sharing the love of Christ.

3.     Building Community. This biblical foundation is described in Acts 2:44---“All the believers were together and had everything in common.”

The purpose of community is to develop relationships, create openness, and build trust. Ministry happens in relationships, so God calls us to be together. Our experience of life with Him is to be shared with each other. As we share our hurts, needs, doubts, and victories, we enter into the richness of the Christian life.As part of the New Members Class, we begin this process of developing relationships by breaking into small groups which are led by experienced church members. What a blessing it is to share your life in Christ, pray for the needs of each other, and see the grace of God revealed.

4.     Next Steps After the New Members Class.

·       Getting Connected Into Ministry - To discover your spiritual gifts and use them to serve others.

·        Joining a Small Group - to develop close relationships with others in a place where you can grow in faith and become all that God intended you to be.
